Where do Canadians obtain abortions?

Abortions are performed in hospitals and private clinics across Canada. Slightly less than half of all abortions are performed in clinics—clinics accounted for 47,005 abortions out of 100,763 abortions performed in Canada in 2004.  These numbers do not include any abortions performed in the Manitoba abortion clinic as it did not release data to Statistics Canada.  A total of 21 abortion clinics operate in the country, with the majority located in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. There is one clinic operating in Newfoundland, one in New Brunswick and one in Manitoba.  Alberta has two, British Columbia and Quebec have four. Ontario has the greatest number of clinics operating, with five in Toronto and a total of eight throughout the province. There are no clinics in the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan, the Territories and Nunavut.
